Professor Peter Childs

Peter Childs

Peter is Professor of Engineering Design at the University of Sussex, director of the Rolls-Royce supported University Technology Centre for Aero-Thermal Systems and director of InQbate, the Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Creativity. His general interests include air-breathing devices, from gas turbine and internal combustion engines to medical ventilators and the application of creative methods in design. He has contributed to over sixty papers and a number of books including a text book on mechanical design, now in its second edition and several monographs on temperature measurement.  He has been involved in research and development contracts for Alstom, Ford, Rolls-Royce plc, Snecma, DaimlerChrysler, Volvo, Johnson Matthey, Siemens, Industriales Turbinas Propulsores, Fiat, the EPSRC and the EU.

 

Tom Hamilton

Tom Hamilton is Assistant Director of InQbate: the Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Creativity, a joint project between the Universities of Sussex and Brighton. His research interests centre around the issue of how space and technology can be used to enhance individual and group creativity, within the arts, sciences and social politics.  His background spans a range of disciplines, with a first degree in Medicine from the University of London and a Diploma in Fine Art from Suffolk College.  Other experience includes web design, e-Learning and creative consultancy, in particular the design of flexible and innovative spaces to support creativity and learning. Tom is also a member of the IDEAS Lab within the Human Centred Technology research group at Sussex.  He has a keen interest in designing effective learning environments and has led a session on "Designing for Creativity" at the recent JISC conference on "Planning and Designing Technology-rich Learning spaces".  He was also a presenter at the JISC online conference on "Innovative Learning" in March 2006, addressing the issue of designing for student engagement.

Janice Pittis

Janice is Deputy Director of Business Development at the University of Essex. She is also Project Director for the HEIF 3 collaborative project that the University of Essex is leading and the Essex representative on the regional HEI collaborative project, i10.

Janice participated in the HERCE funded 'Learning the Habit of Innovation' project which lead to the establishment of Innovation Laboratories, or iLabs, at UEA and two at the University of Essex. The iLab (innovation laboratory) is a specialist facility created to transport users out of their everyday environment into an extraordinary space designed to encourage and inspire creative thought.

The iLab has many uses, from team-building and problem-solving to strategic planning and development of creative ideas. Whatever the problem, the iLab allows users to unlock their skills and potential to work towards a solution.

Janice launched an Enterprise Programme for students at Essex in 2004. Now in its third year it continues to grow in popularity with students across campus. The iLab has been a valuable asset in the development of this Enterprise programme.

Annika Löfgren

Annika is Project Director of Idélab. Idélab is a creative meeting place situated in University of  Mälardalens where students, teachers and researchers are enabled to develop and realise  their business ideas.  Annika originally studied economics and has since trained in banking, business law and as an estate agent! She has also set up and run three of her own companies including Kreo, which has the mission to offer simple, time efficient and joyful tools for idea development (The Kreo Method). She has a wealth of innovation management experience through her own background and her teaching at the University.

 

Sara Hägglund

Sara Hägglund

Sara trained as a music teacher and has been working with children ranging from 6-16 years old for nearly 20 years. She now teaches at University of Mälardalens and was a director of studies for a couple of years, running courses such as teachers, music and creativity.  She then discovered Idélab and found it was the best place she had ever worked!  She is now joint Lab Manager with Mikael Lundh.

Mikael Lundh

Mikael has a Bachelors Degree in Business and Project Management from KaosPilots in Denmark, a Scandinavian business and project management school with a focus on business strategies, entrepreneurship and concept development. Since graduating he has worked with entrepreneurship processes, first in an EU project focusing on minority groups within the EQUAL programme and then at Idélab. As Lab manager at  Idélab his work focuses mainly on business coaching and project management.

Mikael’s interest in project management came about in his teens when he arranged concerts with his former band. He is still playing but has given up his rock star dreams.
