HEEG Conference Delegates

The University of Sussex was delighted to host this network meeting, one in a series of SEEDA funded workshops run under the HEEG* banner. We welcomed guest speakers from Idélab, University of Mälardalen, the University of Essex, InQbate: The Centre of Excellence in Teaching & Learning in Creativity – a joint project between the University of Sussex and the University of Brighton), and colleagues from France, funded by the LINKS Interreg project.  The CAPTURE network, an EU funded programme supporting knowledge transfer and coordinated by Brighton and Hove Unitary Authority, has enabled a relationship to develop between University of Mälardalen and University of Sussex and this event was in part due to the sharing of ideas around how to develop entrepreneurial environments and the key role played by creativity in the development of student enterprise and entrepreneurship.

Sussex has had a long history in the field of creativity. Since its inception in 1961 the founding fathers decided to move away from the traditional subject boundaries and introduced the concept of interdisciplinary studies, taught across Schools rather than departments to allow students – and academics- to enjoy a breadth of knowledge and understanding. Asa Briggs, the second Vice Chancellor of the University, often used the metaphor “the new map of learning” to describe the ethos behind their visionary ideas.

From a radical and visionary start in the sixties, Sussex has continued to link Science and Arts subjects with particular success in human centred technology and the theory of creativity. This continues today with the work of InQbate, The Centre of Excellence in Teaching & Learning in Creativity.

The workshop aimed to bring together leading-edge thinking around creative processes, methodologies and the creative environment.

If you were able to attend, we hope you enjoyed the day and had an opportunity to broaden your network of enterprise and creativity contacts. For those unable to be there these web pages will hopefully provide you with valuable information to use within your own work environment in developing tools to support entrepreneurship.

With best regards

The Regional Development Team at the University of Sussex
